HOLINESS IS NON-NEGOTIABLE

GOD IS HOLY

The Almighty God is often described as having many attributes. But there’s one attribute of His that stands out and that’s HOLINESS.

God’s holiness depicts Him as a deity of purity and perfection. And even more so, He is unrivaled in His character to continually sustain His holiness (Exodus 15:11, Malachi 3:6).

Therefore, it follows that if any individual desires to truly walk in close relationship and communion with God, they must cultivate a consistent and unwavering willingness to align their lives with His fundamental precept of holiness in every aspect and at all times, as clearly instructed in I Peter 1:15-16.

So, despite God’s merciful accommodation of human shortcomings, His standard for holiness remains non-negotiable.

A KEY CONDITION

It is impossible for anyone to sustain an effective relationship with God without holiness.

Often times when God calls out to humans for a relationship, He typically starts by introducing Himself as a holy God while also demanding holiness from the called. Examples include:

  • Abram: God demanded that Abram walk before Him in perfection (Genesis 17:1).
  • Moses: God beckoned to Moses from the burning bush, a scene saturated with His holiness (Exodus 3:5).
  • Isaiah: Though already perceived by many as a great prophet, yet God had to cleanse Isaiah as a condition for greater prophetic works in his ministry (Isaiah 6:1-10).

Beloved, it is impossible for God to negotiate the condition of holiness in His walk with man.

STRIVE FOR HOLINESS

Beloved, though we live in a sinful and wicked world, the expectation is for every child of God to strive for holiness.

So, the question then is: how do strive for holiness? Well, the Bible posed the same question in Psalms 119:9 thus: How can a young person stay on the path of purity (or holiness)?

Interestingly, the answer was also provided in that same scripture: By living according to His word.

Beloved, the word of God can cleanse a person unto attaining holiness. Additionally:

  • We must guard the seed of the word from the devourer (John 10:10) and;
  • We must purge ourselves daily through the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:1-2).

HAPPY NEW MONTH!
